BIOGRAPHY

Andrew Malkin was born in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire in 1962.  His first acting experience was as Mr. Vernon the Rat-catcher in The Pied Piper of Hamelin at Stanney Grange Junior School, aged 8. His love of theatre continued into his Secondary education and was fired by Drama Teachers, Neil Bennion, Brian Goddard, Mike Knot and Jean Nimberley.  He appeared in numerous school productions including Ellesmere Port, 1066 and All That, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Zigger Zagger, The Mikado, and Oliver!

Whilst at school in Cheshire, he attended the Cheshire Drama Course (a drama summer school run by Cheshire Education Authority) four times (1979, 1980, 1981 and 1983).  The Course was organised by Peter Dornford-May whose enthusiasm for drama and the Theatre rubbed off, and Andrew's love of Shakespeare began.

Unable to take the leap into professional Theatre, Andrew pursued a career in IT working for a global IT Company in various roles - Computer Operator, Programmer, Training Specialist, Programming Supervisor, Graduate Training Program Manager, Regional Recruitment Manager and Procurement Specialist in locations as diverse as the Wirral, Barnsley, Harrow, Plano, Texas, Milton Keynes and Telford.

However, all the time Andrew continued with his love of Theatre as a hobby, appearing as Algernon Moncrieff in The Importance of Being Earnest and Sam Nash in Plaza Suite at Plano Repertory Theatre, Texas; Lenny Ganz in Rumors at the Runway Theatre, Grapevine, Texas; Antipholus of Syracuse in The Comedy of Errors, Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Orsino in Twelfth Night for Hillbark Open Air Shakespeare; Torvald Helmer in A Doll’s House, Jerry in Betrayal, Lloyd Dallas in Noises Off, Elyot Chase in Private Lives and Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew at the Heswall Theatre - to name but a few.

When Andrew's Mum contracted cancer and died in 2002, his attitude to life changed and two years later, after his Father's death, he decided to pursue his dream, assisted by a redundancy package from the IT company he had worked for for 23 years.  He auditioned for Drama School, gaining a place at East 15 Acting School studying for an MA in Acting.  Andrew graduated in September 2008.
